Austria // Melk Abbey

Austria Posts

On our way back from the mountains, we also stopped at Melk Abbey. Founded in 1089, the current Abbey is located near the Danube River in the Wachau Valley and was built between 1702-1736.

We were not in Salzburg, but I couldn't help but hum, "how do you solve a problem like Maria?" Yes, total Sound of Music fan right here. Skipping and prancing down the grand stairs was called for too.

Rather than pay for the tour, we spent our time exploring the beautiful grounds, the courtyards and the pathways... with a sneak a peak into the chapel at one point too.

The inner Sister Maria came out in me... and those scenes where she is frolicking around the town and dancing on the fountain. I just couldn't help myself.

The Abbey cat. Okay, I promise I'm not a crazy cat lady. Far from it actually, as I am more of a dog person. But all that aside, this cat totally reminded me of my sister's cat, Emma, who passed away a year ago.

Savoring every moment of these last lovely fall days before heading back to Wien to catch the flight home where winter awaited us.
