Home for the Holidays

Home can mean many things. A place where one lives (a residence). The physical structure within which one lives. A dwelling place together with the family that occupies it (a household). An environment offering security and happiness. A place regarded as a refuge or place of origin. The place where one was born or has lived for a long period. The place where something is discovered, founded, developed, or promoted.

When I think of home, family and friends, treasured memories, and lots of love come to mind. To be home for the holidays is a tremendous blessing, but for some it can be bittersweet. I can’t help but remember those who have lost loved ones during the past year/around the holidays or those serving overseas sacrificing everything (including being home for the holidays), to protect our freedom(s).

We were at a few of our “homes” for the holidays this year. We spent time at our parents’ houses on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Although it is quite convenient that our parents live 2 miles apart, it makes for a busy weekend back and forth and is quite exhausting to be completely honest. Our families make it well worth it though :). We were able to spend time with our Church home in WI for Christmas Eve Service. We love these friends, and it is about the only time each year we are all together since we are scattered across the country now. New Year’s Eve was relaxing in the comfort of our current home. We needed a low-key, sweatpants/sweatshirt kind of evening so cheese and chocolate fondue for two, the Office Season 2, and time together were the perfect mix. New Year’s Day was spent painting the kitchen in the new home and watching the Badger game.

It is good to be reminded that while many places are earthly homes to us here and now, we are anxiously awaiting our heavenly home. 2 Corinthians 5:1 – For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.

We hope you enjoyed being home for the holidays, wherever home may be for you.
