I had been patiently searching for a new bed - everything from using an old door as a headboard to having a bedframe built from old barn wood. Then, thanks to the blog Baby Food Scoops (follow them if you aren't already), I stumbed upon a place called Urban Evolutions in Menasha, WI. Urban Evolutions uses reclaimed wood to construct furniture and flooring, and their products get picked up by companies such as Sundance and Anthropologie. As you can imagine, these high quality items can be expensive. However, Urban Evolutions has an outlet where they sell some of their products at a discounted price compared to what they would normally retail for at Sundance or Anthro.
To make a long story short, after a few conversations and emails, we bought a queen size bed made from recycled pickle barrels. I was a little nervous purchasing something that I hadn't seen in person (only from pictures), but we love it. It is very sturdy and has lots of character. Special thanks to my mom who not only picked up the bed from the outlet, but delivered it across the border!

Now with any large projects or purchases, we always set a budget and try to stick to it. We would recommend saving for these purchases a little at a time until it is fully funded.

Thanks for the shout-out, Amanda! And yes.. Urban Evolutions rocks our world here in the Fox Cities! Our house has two bedside tables made from reclaimed barn lumber and painted tin.
